Causes of death. Underlying cause and diagnosis groups according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) ICD-10, X60-X84, Suicide and intentional self-harm. The mortality rate, or death rate is a measure of the number of deaths (in general, or due to a specific cause) in a particular population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit of time. Mortality rate is often expressed in units of deaths per 1,000 or 100,000 individuals (males and females) per year. The Age-specific mortality rate is the total number of deaths per year per 1,000 or 100,000 people of a given age. Practices for coding 'suicide, accidents and self-inflicted injury' differ from one country to another and, thus, care should be taken when comparing figures. Data is masked so as to conceal cells with very low numbers (cells with 1-4 are masked). A cell with the symbol ... indicates masked data. Totals for Sex and Age may be masked as well, if one or more underlying cells are masked.
